Iceland Day 7 - Geothermal fields, waterfalls, city

On Friday 20th of June we are going again to Jökulsárgljúfur, because we did not go to Selfoss yesterday. This time we are going to try western road. Then we are going (again :-) ) to geothermal fields of Námafjall. This time with cameras.

Then we are going to check out surroundings of Mývatn (depends on weather), go to Goðafoss and finally to reach Akureyri.

Mývatn - geothermal and lava fields

This place could be much nicer if weather permitted. OK, it was interesting to have snow at geothermal field, but otherwise grey sky did not help a bit!

Krafla

Finally some color (crazy color I should say), I start to like these geothermal fields. Smell is not the nicest one, but a bit saturation in processing of photos compensates for it completely ;-)

It is not noise, but snow.

Námafjall & Hverir

Wow, this is the most beautiful mud I've ever seen!

Námafjall is red/brown hill over geothermal field Hverir.

Another geothermal field used by man. This time with glimpses of blue sky.

At the shores of Mývatn

Mývatn is big lake in north-east Iceland. From description in tourist guide it looks like there are not many things that could attract us, but we have found otherwise. Previously shown geothermal fields, lava fields, picturesque islands and others we have not seen.

However tourist guide was completely right about annoying midgets that are here to bother people.

Dimmuborgir

Dimmuborgir is very nice lava field that contains oddly shaped lava formations, pillars, arches in nice green settings of grass, moss and trees. There are several marked trails, but we could take only shorter one. It is worth to spend here more time, weather and time permitting.

I am showing only couple of photos, because they are not good. Still I need to show something to make a point.

Höfði

Nice, probably recreational, place at the shore of Mývatn. Again, proven combination of lava and trees :-)
