Norway Day 2 - waterfalls, mountains and summer skiing
Added: September 06, 2008
Some waterfalls are planned for this day, 2 national parks, old wooden churches, we will go through interesting tunnels and there are some alternatives. It depends on time, but we have no illusions that this time we could progress faster :-) And of course - cherries has been added unexpectedly to our daily menu yesterday.
We need to get to Bøverdalen in the evening.
Jotunheimen National Park
Jotunheimen is beatiful national park that deserves more time we were able to dedicate to it. We just passed through it, but at least we used the nicest road - RV55 Sognefjelet Road.
From Borgund we returned to Lærdal, then continued to Øvre Årdal, then to Turtagrø.
Utladalen
We wanted to hike to Vettisfossen waterfall that is the tallest waterfall with single drop in Norway. But when we arrived to Utladalen before 6pm and learned it takes 2 hours to get to waterfall and back we decided against it. We still had 150km through Jotunheimen ahead of us and it takes long time to travel such distance through beautiful coutry for us :-)
Jotunheimen
Jotunheimen is really nice national park. It reminded us Low Tatras from Slovakia. We got some sun shine finally. Not enough, but making photos bit better.
Before we reached RV55 we need to go through toll road to Turtagrø. Toll is collected at the top.
It is quite cold, no wonder we are 1300m above sea level (while we have been at sea level only 2 hours ago :-) ).
I have seen odd roads in Wales and in Iceland, but this one is the best :-)
Galdhøppiggen summer ski centre
After accommodating in Bøverdalen we went for short trip to Galdhøppiggen summer ski centre. No, we did not go there to ski, it was 10pm or so hence it was closed.
Surprising thing was that road leading there is toll road - maybe it should not be surprising because it is the highest road in Norway.
Unfortunatelly we got into clouds, it was raining and foggy there hence we did not have nice view from there.
Returning from ski centre.
Really, paid for...
