Elephants in their property
The reason we went into this ZOO is the same as is the reason for coming to Copenhagen - one of Zuzka's favourite architects, Foster, built Elephant House there. As the name suggests it is house for elephants and we were bound to see it.
Apart from providing shelter for big graceful mammals it has also small exhibition about elephants (history, biology) and ivory. I did not know elephants are tiptoeing as they walk. Did you?
Beasts
We have spent some time watching and photographing polar bear totally captivated with a plastic barrel. Or he might be angry at it (I am sure it was male based on energy and time he spent with "playing" with it). As usual for me, I have missed the best shot when he jumped to water after throwing the barrel there. If we only arrived there 10 seconds sooner. I was not ready for such a sight as we approached them and it happened 3 seconds before we got to barrier.
At least I have managed to get jumping tiger :-)
This is supposed to be wolf.
I am always intrigued by interesting warnings or information labels. I just cannot imagine that somebody could be stupid enough to hand their child to a bear! Duh?
Other critters
It would not be good ZOO (and this one is very good!) if they did not have smaller animals.
The monkey went into following pose after it noticed it is centre of interest of my photos.
I am now reading very good book The Photographer's Eye: Composition and Design for Better Digital Photos. It is full of "anticipate movement". Well, I cannot say I anticipated this, but I am satisfied with result. It is much better than my first reaction "That bloody bird ruined my photo!" :-)
I have never been in tropical house before. And I liked it a lot. It is pity that the big blue butterfly never sat near to me (if at all). But I succeeded to take picture of others.
