« RSS feed should be working | Sunny day at Three Cliffs Bay » |
All was organized and planned quite fast, so it was not ideal (places to visit vs. places to sleep at). Also weather did not seem promising.
Completely we did about 1080km.
Sunday - Cornwall
Sunday morning was not very promissing. It rained. A lot. Still we got to car and headed for 120km+ drive with hope for better weather even forecast was not promising any. We skipped the first optional destination - Godrevy Lighthouse, I can imagine I would have hard time to persuade people to go there even in nice weather. We went to Penzance, spotted our second planned destination of day, made the first detour caused by lazy navigator today and headed to St Just. My most wanted place for today lies ahead :-)
Porth Nanven / Cot Valley
We came to St Just full of optimism that we will find Porth Nanven easily. I thought it will be presented as best tourist attraction here, but there is no sign about it anywhere... We found one map at the square where I was able to decide on way to go based on my vague memory where I have seen it on google maps. (I know it was my fault, I was too lazy to print complete documentation on time thus we forgot to print this one in a hurry of last night before trip.)
At least raining is lighter than in Bude.
So we drove "that way" until we realized that there are no signs anywhere apart from "Private Property" likes. So I resigned to see my main interest here, but Peter tried one more road going nowhere and to our surprise and delight it was there! And with blue sky! So let's go to check some pictures out!
Wow, finally some lighthouse I can take picture of :-) I did not know about it. BTW islands are named Scilly.
During our preparation for this trip I have found following site that helped me to decide we need to come here! Unfortunately I am not professional photographer, I am not talented, I had only 2 hours and I could not come during sunset, thus my pictures cannot be compared with those. Here it is, make sure you will check them out: http://www.tonyhowell.co.uk/porthnanven.htm
St Michael's Mound
Nice castle/monastery close to Penzance needs visit. Unfortunately it is cloudy again and high tide is coming thus we cannot get there and pictures from distance are not very good either. Maybe if we did not spent so much time in Porth Nanven we would be able to see more here. It looks like we are fighting with time again.
This surprised me twice. The first time when we were walking back to car I noticed that there are rabbits in this small conservation area. And second time at home while processing pictures I found I actually have them on photo.
It looks like drive-in culture is misused to full extent here ;-)
It is called oxymoron, isn't it?
Mullion Cove
Our navigator picked for us "more attractive" road with lot of adrenalin while we could drive by normal wide one. When we got to Mullion (town) I was surprised that so narrow and bad road is main access to it, but on the way back we found which way to go :-)
Nice and fortunatelly small cove, because we need to get to Kynance Cove before sunset!
Zoom is cool thing
Kynance Cove
This place is really fantastic! Vast and rugged coastline and we came in right time - before sunset :-) Let's do small trek to the right to get closer to those rocks!
Stay tuned for similar but nicer photos from already booked vacations in early summer!
Two taken against sun
Truro Cathedral
We got to Truro quite late, it was cold, everything was closed so only short walk to cathedral and around it, take a few pictures and back to the car.
