Iceland Day 3 - Landmannalaugar
Added: July 05, 2008
Landmannalaugar is geothermal and volcanic area full of unbelievable colors. It was expected to be one of highlights of our holidays in Iceland and I looked forward to it for long time. Problem is that it is rather cloudy and rain is expected.
To Skógar
We are returning from Landmannalaugar the same way we came from Hrauneyjar. Reason is simple: F208 to south is more complicated with more serious river crossings than one we just absolved and it is still closed.
From Hrauneyjar we are going by road 26. It is shorter and we did not go there yet. We are heading to Skogar - our next accommodation.
BTW my problems with Color Management are still not resolved and it means some photos might be less saturated than I seen in DXO. But there should not be violet cast any more.
Road 26
Stopping car to take picture on road 26 is interesting. I need to wait some time till all dust our car made is blown away by wind before I get out. It blows in the same direction we are heading, but slower, thus it catches us for some time after stopping.
Seljalandfoss
Finally we reached Ring road. Country is green again, lot of horses and sheep around. Very nice change after dark deserts of highlands (but I liked them too!)
We are passing nice green cliffs with red roofed farms beneath them.
Vestmannaeyjar islands are visible from Seljalandfoss.
There are more waterfalls a few meters away. The second one is Gljúfurárfoss, that is hidden behind narrow canyon. You need to wet your legs to see it, but Herman taken his boots after our "boot camp", so we missed it (it is better visible from Ring Road).
To Skógar
We are tired, strong cold wind blows from mountains thus we decided to leave Skógafoss to tommorrow morning. Our hostel is only few meters from it and we can wait :-) .
Sorry, no photo from Skógar.
