Jardim Botânico in Funchal
We were accommodated next to botanical garden at Bom Successo. It was not a coincidence. We liked the possibility to be next to botanical garden we wanted to visit and also cable car going to Monte from botanical garden seemed like a good opportunity for hiking.
Botanical garden has nice selection of local flowers, as well as exotic ones, trees and also pond with turtles and aviary with mostly small green parrots. Looking back, we could probably pick another day for visiting it. It was too hot, so if we spend that day doing some hike in forest or mountains, where that hot weather would be easier to enjoy.
These can be found at many places of Madeira.

Jardim Orquídea
In walking distance from Jardim Botânico is another opportunity to see flowers. This one is dedicated to orchids and there are plenty of them.
It is easier to walk down the hill to the Jardim Orquídea than other direction. However, our accommodation was above Jardim Botânico and we needed to return back. It was pretty hard "hike" in that hot afternoon. Only good thing about this return was that we stopped at gift shop and bought bottle of nice Madeira wine. If I compare my experience from these 2 places, I liked orchids more - many of them in small space without direct sunshine, compared to vast open area where interesting flowers/trees are spread all over it.
